Prior to joining the University of Sheffield, Eleanor completed an Integrated Masters in
Mathematics and a PGCE in Secondary Education at the University of York. She has joined
the University of Sheffield as part of the Centre of Doctoral Training (CDT) funded by the
Economic and Social Research Council (ERSC). The programme is a 4-year integrated
PhD and MSc in Data analytics and Society bringing together four universities: University of
Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, and Manchester.
The PhD provides an exciting opportunity to combine a passion for statistics and social
science. Eleanor’s PhD research will focus on the impact of migration on segregation and
the effects of social frontiers on educational outcomes, mental health, and crime. Eleanor is
interested in research about inequality, social mobility especially focused on children’s
outcomes. The PhD offers Eleanor the fantastic experience of working alongside
researchers at Delft University on an incredible micro-level social science dataset.
