Emily leads on Carers UK policy, research and media work and was responsible for Carers UK’s Advice and Information services for 15 years. She has worked on numerous pieces of legislation, securing carers’ rights across welfare, pensions, social care, health, equalities and employment, with the most recent rights being the Carer’s Leave Act 2023 and changes to Carer’s Allowance such as the earnings limit rise in the last Budget.
Having undertaken over 40 pieces of research, carers have remained at the heart of this work, which has also led to change. She’s a member of the International Alliance of Carer Organisations Committee, on the Eurocarers Board and a Co-Chair of the Care and Support Alliance which she helped establish. She has been part of the COVID-19 response in the UK, including co-chairing the Carers Advisory Group for the Government’s Adult Social Care COVID-19 Taskforce and worked on vaccine roll-out for carers.
Emily has been at Carers UK since 1996 and was awarded an OBE by the HM The Queen in 2015 for services to unpaid carers and more recently a CBE by HM The King in the 2024 Birthday Honours for services to unpaid carers.
