John is chairperson of the board of Eurocarers – the European network representing informal carers and their organisations. He retired as CEO of Family Carers Ireland in 2025 after fifteen years in that role. Having spent the first fifteen years of his career in public sector management roles, he then moved to the third sector and served as CEO of two other national voluntary organisations before moving to the care sector. John has extensive lived experience as the main carer for his mother until her death in 2024.
