Lucy is an Impact Associate in the Centre for Care, working closely with Fay Benskin and academics to improve the impact of research in decision making processes for key stakeholders across government policy and third sector organisations.
Prior to joining the team as an Impact Associate, Lucy worked as a researcher on the Queering Shelter Project with co-investigator PJ Annand. Lucy explored the nature and breadth of ‘safe space’ policies across government departments, charities and LGBTQ+ organisations. Lucy is passionate about improving access to and the functionality of public services for marginalised groups – social justice is at the core of Lucy’s research practice.
Lucy has a particular interest in fostering collaborative relationships between academics and policy professionals in central government. For four years, Lucy worked as a policymaker in the civil service, focussing primarily on Disability Benefit reform and Supported Housing policy. Lucy’s experience in the civil service was a motivator to deepen their academic knowledge of health disparities, leading to their study at King’s College London looking at Global Health and Social Medicine.
