We are thrilled to announce that QAR-Net Care will be hosting a symposium and an exciting stand at the Transforming Care Conference 2025, taking place in Helsinki, Finland, from June 25–27! If you are attending the conference, feel free to join us for an insightful exploration of the latest research on care inequalities.

About the Transforming Care Conference 2025

Held every two years, the Transforming Care Conference examines how care policies and practices are evolving for children, older adults, and disabled people. The 2025 conference theme, “Social and Human Rights in Care,” will explore the intersection of social and human rights in care provision, focusing on their role in shaping policies and improving care outcomes.

By bringing social and human rights discussions into care research, the conference seeks to deepen our understanding of care inequalities and advocate for better policies. More info available :https://www.transforming-care.net/2025-transforming-care-conference/

QAR-Net Care Symposium: A Deep Dive into Care Inequalities

Our symposium will showcase cutting-edge quantitative research on care inequalities, featuring presentations from QAR-Net Care members on socioeconomic and health-related disparities in care needs, as well as informal and formal care work.

  1. Dr. Javiera Cartagena-Farías (London School of Economics) will examine how fuel poverty influences the development of long-term care needs, using Structural Equation Modelling.
  2. Dr. Baowen Xue (University College London) will present findings from a longitudinal study on cognitive function changes before and after transitioning into care, exploring whether care characteristics influence these changes.
  3. Dr. Jingwen Zhang and Dr. Maria Petrillo (University of Manchester and University of Sheffield) will assess how means-tested public social care support affects both formal and informal care service use among older adults in England, employing a sharp regression discontinuity design.
  4. Harriet Ann Patrick and Christie Butcher (University of Sheffield) will discuss the employment-related outcomes of care provision across different social groups in the UK, demonstrating how they triangulate multiple quantitative methods to approach this issue.

Dr. Christian Deindl (TU Dortmund University) will conclude the session with a thought-provoking discussion on the symposium’s findings and the future of quantitative research on care inequalities. The session will end with a dynamic Q&A, inviting the audience to engage in critical discussions on the presented research.
