About our speakers
Professor Kate Hamblin (host)
Kate Hamblin is Professor of Social Policy and Director of the Centre for Care. She joined the University of Sheffield in 2018 to work on the Sustainable Care programme. She is the UK Networks and geographical lead for the North and East-Midlands in the IMProving Adult Care Together (IMPACT) evidence implementation Centre. She is also the Policy and Practice Liaison lead for the NIHR School for Social Care Research at the University of Sheffield.
Dr Matthew Ford
Dr Matthew Ford is the Senior Research Analyst at the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), where he has led the organisation’s care equity workstream for the past two years. His work focuses on understanding and addressing inequities in adult social care through research, evidence synthesis and co-production.
Matthew has led the development of SCIE’s Care Equity Evidence Hub and has worked on a range of projects exploring care equity, experiences of co-production in social care, and technology-enabled care. With an academic background in health and social care research, he is particularly interested in how evidence and lived experience can be brought together to improve policy and practice.
Isaac Samuels OBE
Isaac Samuels OBE is a nationally recognised lived experience leader, community organiser, facilitator and social justice advocate. Isaac works across health, social care, mental health and community spaces, bringing lived and living experience together with professional knowledge to influence policy, practice and systems change.
Their work is rooted in co-production, equity, anti-racism and ensuring that people whose voices are too often overlooked have genuine power and influence. Isaac works with communities, public services, charities, researchers and national organisations to create spaces where people can share their experiences safely and where those experiences lead to meaningful action.
At the heart of Isaac’s work is a simple belief that lived experience is not an addition to good decision-making. It is knowledge, expertise and leadership in its own right.
